  Do Witnesses Have Any Aspirations Anymore?

  when i was a kid, my family wanted me to reach out for any type of "privilege", whether it be cleaning the rest room or being an attendant.

  obviously, reaching out to be a ministerial servant and elder were high on the list.. since college was a no no, we were to aspire to be something within the congregation.. i wonder if anyone aspires to be anything in the organization, at this point in time..

  I think the aspirations of the publishers are purely mandated by the governing body's unreasonable expectations. For instance, publishers are pressured to be baptized, baptized publishers are pressured to pioneer, pioneers are pressured to elevate to bethelites or "need greaters," etc.

  Sadly, it creates a culture of it's members feeling as if they are never doing enough.

  In fact, upon my return from volunteering at Bethel, I was ostracized by my elders for not serving "long enough." Where most other organizations provide praise for the efforts of their members, Watchtower scorns is members with "that's not good enough, you could have done more for us."

  During a semi-annaul Circuit Overseer-Elders meeting, I witnessed the C.O. ask the body of elders if there were any brothers in the hall with mental issues. One of the elders responded, "yeah, unfortunautely, we have a few of them and they are a mess to deal with." At that point, other elders began to chime in with insults regarding mental conditions while other elders and the C.O laughed with them in full agreement. I was sickened to my stomach. This was the last Circuit Overseer-Elders meeting I attended as I stepped down shortly thereafter.

  The deplorable attitude of the orginiations view of mental conditions originates within the management of the organization. Shame on them!
